Being an early-mover means HyFive is able to identify and secure the best locations for its projects with sufficient capacity to critical infrastructure and utilities.

All projects are strategically located in proximity to at least one of the following infrastructures:

  • Future hydrogen transmission networks
  • Deep water ports
  • Entrance points from Africa and connection points with France
  • Trans-European transport networks
    • Water source
    • Power grid

  

BENORTH2, A LEADING PROJECT IN THE HYFIVE PORTFOLIO

The BenortH2 project in Bizkaia is a certified pioneering undertaking because it reuses and adapts existing energy infrastructure, making the project cost efficient, and because it will function as a hub, serving green hydrogen to a variety of industrial and mobility operators throughout the regional valley.

Apart from making use of the infrastructure of the combined cycle power plant in Amorebieta, it will be realized in parallel with the planned  dedicated hydrogen distribution pipeline of Nortegas, official partner in the BenortH2 project.

This innovative dedicated green hydrogen distribution grid allows for unparalleled safety and efficiency in relation to reliably distributing the green hydrogen to the variety of industrial end consumers.In 2023 HyFive has successfully undertaken a material effort to engage with additional offtakers of the green hydrogen, a mix of industrial and mobility users. 

The combination of the strategic location of the project and the innovative distribution infrastructure results in attractive cost reductions when it comes to producing green hydrogen and delivering it to final offtakers in throughout the region. Moreover, the plant can be further optimised through expansion over time, making use of positive trends in cost curves of both energy and key equipment, leading toeven more compelling conditions.

The unique proposition of BenortH2 has been recognized by the Hydrogen Valley platform, a joint initiative by Clean Hydrogen Platform and Mission Innovation. A valuable token of appreciation that has been awarded to a limited number of projects globally.

COMPETITIVE ADVANTAGES
OF THE BENORTH2 GREEN HYDROGEN PLANT

The location is well positioned for a fast implementation of the hydrogen infrastructure due to its connectivity to existing gas, electricity and water infrastructure as well as existing demand for hydrogen from a diversified mix of end users in industry and mobility.

STRATEGIC LOCATION

Distribution of green hydrogen using the new and innovative Nortegas hydrogen distribution grid and through hydrogen injection into the existing Nortegas natural gas pipeline network. Quick access to main transportation corridots in Spain and into France via road, as well as excellent connectivity to deap sea marine export facilities in the port of Bilbao.

DIGITAL TWIN TECHNOLOGY

The plant is completely digitalised, allowing the control, management and theoretical application of improvements and modifications before they are applied in practice.This digital twin system makes it possible to scale and replicate the plant in other areas in record time.
